2011 Dunnville Rotary River Arts Festival Children's
Art Programming
The 6th Annual River Arts Festival Committee is pleased to announce
their plans for this year’s Children’s programming.
The festival will run from November 5th until November 19th, in
and around the Dunnville downtown area. We once again invite Principals
and Teachers to add the following information to their monthly
news letter so that teachers, students and parents can participate
in this year’s events. We will also supply handouts to each
student upon request.
Children’s
Art Contest and Gallery
The committee
is happy to once again offer an art contest and exhibit of children’s
work. The gallery will be located at 125 Queen Street (beside
Mudcat Music) and the hours of operation will be evenings 6:00-8:00,
Saturdays and Sundays 12:00-4:00pm. Schools can book tour times
during the week days by calling Haldimand Art Works at (905)772-7000.
Prizes will be awarded November 19th at Flyers Café.
There are
not any requirements regarding subject matter or theme and we
will accept drawing, painting, photography or sculpture. We do
ask that all flatwork be matted or on a backing for hanging and
all pieces must include the student’s name, grade, school
and contact information.
Submitted pieces will be divided into the following categories:
JK – Grade 1
Grades 2 & 3
Grades 4, 5, & 6
Grades 7 & 8
Due to limited
space, we ask for only one submission per student. If more than
one is submitted, the committee will choose which piece will be
judged and displayed.
Literary
Contest
Last year
produced a lot of extraordinary stories from local students and
we look forward to reading what our young writers have for us
this year.
Once again
we age offering a story-spinner to assist in getting creative
juices flowing but its use is not a requirement. This year’s
story-spinner is:
Location:
A soccer game
Opening Phrase: If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you…
Four must use words: fossil, smothered, truthful, and annoying
The committee
asks that there be no illustrations and all writing be typed (double-spaced)
or neatly and legibly printed and placed in a duotang with the
students name, grade, school and contact information on the cover.
Categories
and word count are as follows:
JK – Grade 1 (30 words, with help)
Grades 2 & 3 (60 words)
Grades 4, 5, & 6 (80 words)
Grades 7 & 8 (150 words)
We will accept
submissions up until October 28th and pick up at schools can be
arranged.
We are also
pleased to announce a children’s cartooning workshop on
November 18th at 6:00. Registration is required due to limited
space. As well as children’s author and performer Judy Shier
Wiseberg will be bringing along her ventriloquist puppets to perform
on November 14th. Schools are asked to contact the committee through
Haldimand Art Works if they are interested in attending her show.
If you wish
to include your students in our Art and Literary events, please
call 905 722 7000 and leave a message, someone will get back to
you or send an email to askus@riverartsfestival.ca.
Sincerely,
The Dunnville Rotary River Arts Festival Committee
